Learning to Embrace

Acceptance always rings in my voice, when I talk to others about my Nonverbal Learning Disorder. That is because I acknowledge what I have, and understand that the challenges will be there for the rest of my life. Yet another thing that is prevalent in my voice is a lack of enthusiasm and passion, which often suggests to others that I don't embrace NVLD and they are not wrong. Embracing my learning difference is a challenge and has been for my past twenty three years of life.

Even though I have forgiven people, I have not forgotten that they lowered their expectations of me because of what I have, and judged my diagnosis instead of my character. Therefore, it is hard for me to really embrace NVLD, because of the negative judgement I have often received. I know that I cannot stop that type of judgment, I'm not free from it and cannot demand otherwise. That is not how the world works.

However my dad gave me some words today that inspired hope. He told me that with the talents that my learning difference has brought, I have the ability to accomplish something amazing and be a champion for those who struggle. I truly believe that once I use my gifts to do something unbelievable, I will be able to truly embrace what I have and say "if it was not for NVLD, I would have not been able to accomplish this." I do not know how long that will take, but with faith, family and friends at my side, I know that the blessing will come.

In a way, I can to relate this to a current horse experience. I acknowledge that I do have a connection with horses, but I want to delve deeper into the bond that I have with them . I feel that once I truly understand the connection, I will be able to embrace it more and something amazing will come from that. Like my other situation, I don't know what and when that experience will be, but I believe that it will happen.

I hope that this post support those who are in the same boat. Please know that you are not alone, it takes a while to find use in those gifts and embrace the difficulties that come with them. As I search for my opportunity, I wish you the best of luck in finding yours! Thank you for reading and hope you find blessings in all you do.

Warm regards,
